The 4th Annual Irish Arts Center New York City Irish Dance Festival takes place on Sunday May
1 at Pier 63, at the end of West 23rd St., Manhattan, overlooking the Hudson River. Original Riverdance lead Jean Butler and original Riverdance-on-Broadway lead Colin Dunne will headline the festival, and will be joined by an array of stars from the Irish dance world in New York City and beyond: Donny Golden and dancers, Niall O'Leary and dancers, Darrah Carr, Kathleen Collins, the Schade Academy and many more.
This unique, all-day, all-ages event will feature not only performances by stars of the Irish dance world and dance schools from the New York area, but also master workshops in many styles of Irish dance, discussion forums, films, music seisiúns, and set and céilí dance with live music.
The festival will also showcase some of the best local and international musicians: the evening ceili stars Joanie Madden, Billy McComiskey, Brian Conway, Mick Moloney and Brendan Dolan while there is live music all day with Niall Mulligan, Sean Og Graham and Francis Ward. This year's festival will also feature dancers and Irish dance academics from the University of Limerick, Ireland, the home of the only Irish Dance degree program in the world.
Come to the pier to enjoy a day of great dancing: performances, workshops, talks, discussions and everyone-out-on-the-floor dances!

Irish food, dance and craft vendors will be on-site throughout the day.

Conference on Percussive Dance
Glucksman Ireland House: New York University Friday, April 29th and Saturday, April 30th, 2005
Glucksman Ireland House and the Music Department of New York University will hold a conference on percussive dance on April 29th and 30th - the first of its kind ever to be held on this topic anywhere in the world. On the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the dazzling emergence of Riverdance: The Show onto the world stage, a distinguished cast of dance historians and ethnochoreologists will convene along with renowned dancers, dance teachers and choreographers to discuss and reflect on a variety of topics in the world of percussive dance.
Papers will be given and panel discussions held on varieties of Irish step dance, flamenco, tap dance, African American stepping, English clog dancing, Appalachian clogging, North Indian Kathak and Canadian step dance traditions from Newfoundland, Cape Breton, Quebec and the Ottawa Valley.
Participants will include New York dancers and dance teachers Donny Golden and Niall O'Leary; Mark Howard, director and founder of the Trinity Dance Company in Chicago; Lynn Dally, director of the Jazz Tap ensemble in CA; Catherine Foley, Mary Nunan and Orflaith Ni Bhriain from the University of Limerick in Ireland; Colin Quigley from UCLA; Jaime Morrison from the University of California at Northridge; Darrah Carr of Hofstra University; Gary Larsen from Brigham Young University; Miriam Phillips from Mill Valley College; and Helen Brennan, author of The Story of Irish Dance.
Riverdance stars Jean Butler and Colin Dunne will be featured in a panel chaired by Mick
Moloney of Glucksman Ireland House. The panelists will discuss the impact of Riverdance on
Irish dance and other world dance traditions over the past decade. Butler and Dunne will also appear in a panel chaired by Mícheál ÓSúilleabháin, Director of the Center for World Music at the University of Limerick, on the topic of emerging collaborations between Irish step dancers and modern dance choreographers.
Another featured panel will include five distinguished figures in Irish Dance in the New York area, all of whom have been dancing, teaching and adjudicating competitions for over 50 years, in which they will discuss continuities and changes in Irish step dance in the course of their lifetime work in dance.

On Friday, April 29th, the conference will be held at Glucksman Ireland House, One Washington Mews (entrance on Fifth Avenue between 8th Street and Washington Square Park)
On Saturday, April 30th, the conference will be held in NYU's Hemmerdinger Hall, located in the Silver Center, in the Northeast corner of Washington Square Park, at 100 Washington Square East on the first floor.
On Sunday, May 1st, a number of the conference participants will be taking part in the Irish Arts Center's New York City Irish Dance Festival, starting at noon on Pier 63, just west of 23rd Street.
